Gardening

It's almost that time of year to start indoor seedlings for the outdoor garden. I have complied a stack of gardening books targeted at colder climates (I am in Canada) and small spaces . My plan this year is to stick to lots of potatoes, green beans and other easier veggies.  The rasberry  bushes have become very tall so I will have to keep a close eye on them and trim them back this year. I love them but they are taking over!

I will also do my herbs and try to keep my strawberries alive. I would also like to paint the fence around the garden. I am not sure what colour yet but I would love to try and get away with something fun and bright.

My biggest problem are rabbits! So I will need to try to deter them as best as possible. Humaine suggestions are welcome.

Vegan Pizza

I found an amazing spelt frozen pizza dough ball at Vince's Market last night. I will post a picture of the label in another post.

So I made this amazing pizza last night using the following toppings:

  • jalapenos
  • red onions
  • sun-dried tomatoes
  • grape tomatoes
  • assorted bell peppers
  • chili flakes
  • pizza sauce
  • coconut "bacon"
Next time I will also use Daiya Vegan Cheese for a little something extra or drizzle raw cashew cheese on top.

Delicious!

Banana Milk

So in my last post you probably noticed that for breakfast I have something called banana milk. There is no actual milk in this but what is created is a very silky milk or milkshake texture.

I take:

5 bananas
1 cup of coconut water
1 cup of filtered water
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla

Liquid measurements may very on the size of the bananas so start with less and keep adding to a consistency that you like. I blend in my Ninja Pulse. I add a few ice cubes also. This will fill almost two 2L mason jars. And this is my breakfast. Sometimes I add 8 dates, or another fruit. In this picture I added fresh pineapple.

I am full after this normally but if you decide to do Raw Till 4 then a mono-meal is recommended, meaning a very large serving of one kind of fruit. Such as a big bowl of strawberries, or 1/2 a watermelon, or a big bowl of peaches etc. Or you may prefer doing a second smoothie.

But anyhow that is banana milk and it is so lovely and refreshing. Enjoy!

Welcome to my blog!

Thank you for visiting my blog!

My name is Emilie and I am so excited to share with what I have learned so far about vegan foods. from age 16 to 23 I was vegetarian and you could say I was doing okay. I definitely ate to much cheese during this time that is for sure.

From there I fell off the wage, due to some peer pressure and began eating the odd meat product. I don't know what I was thinking but this would arise again later on.

I became vegan for 2 years from 2012 to 2014. That takes us to last spring, my iron and B12 levels were so low and I am not a pill person ( my body literally rejects them if they are too large) From last May 2014 to Christmas 2014 I gained 10 lbs. Yes 10lbs!!! On someone like myself that is ony 5 feet tall that is alot. I wasn't feeling like myself at all. After New Years and struggling with my inner demons and reflecting on why did I start eating meat again? Did I really truly in my heart think it was going to be worth it. Bottom line - I know better. There has to be a better way and I will make it work.

So now just a few weeks later I am on Raw Till 4, week 2. I will be posting my last 2 weeks of meals and feelings and will continue with updates.

I will be posting recipes on this blog from my daily life. I will be reviewing cook books and posting adapted meals to be vegan friendly.
